Festival of Arts – Pageant of the Masters

Actors ride the hippogriff depicting the classic sculpture of Antoine-Louis Baryne.
The picture below is the finished piece on display at the 2011 Pageant of the Masters show in Laguna Beach, CA.

I have done several pieces of the pageant and this was the most challenging to date. I am currently working on other vignettes for the upcoming 2012 show this summer.

This full size piece rotated 360 degrees while briefly being shown. The Pageant is a wonderful thing to experience. It has been going on for over 80 years in Laguna and typically sells out way ahead of opening night. The 2011 show was based on Myth and Magic. The show itself gets it pedigree from the French when it was called’ Tableau Vivant’ which means Living Pictures.

The only reference I received to begin sculpting was picture on the right. This is the actual sculpture that is in the Louvre in Paris France.

I’m excited to see what they have in store for me this year. If you want to see something wonderful plan a visit to the Pageant. They are amazing at what they do!
